56,000+ eBooks that you can read for free

Project Gutenberg offers more than 56,000 free eBooks, including great literature as well as a ton of text books!

Choose from free ePub or kindle books, which you can download or read online.

No fees or registration.

The eBooks may be freely used in the United States because most are not protected by U.S. copyright law, usually because their copyrights have expired. They may not be free of copyright in other countries. Readers outside of the United States must check the copyright terms of their countries before downloading or redistributing our eBooks.  There are also some copyrighted titles, for which the copyright holder has given permission for unlimited non-commercial worldwide use.

To get started, you can jump right into browsing the online bookshelves, or start by reading the FAQs.

It takes a little practice to find all the books, so do take the time to explore the site and find the options that might not show up in the first screens.  For example, here’s a screen-shot of some of the many extra books I found when I clicked the ‘catalog search‘ at the bottom of the Education sub-category:

Happy reading!
