The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is a world-recognised education provider and professional body for anti-fraud specialists. Members include investigators, law enforcement personnel, auditors, prosecutors, academics and… yes, students.
As a Certified Fraud Examiner since 2009, and former student member of the ACFE for some years before that, I highly recommend student membership. For more information about the ACFE’s activities, have a look around the ACFE website.
The ACFE is offering a tremendous opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a fraud-related career. A limited number of student scholarships to the 29th Annual ACFE Global Fraud Conference are available, which will be hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 17-22.
Students who are not yet ACFE members may apply online.
The scholarship includes free registration to the Main Conference (June 18-20), access to networking receptions and two ACFE polo shirts. In return, the student will be required to assist ACFE staff in various areas for a minimum of five hours during the conference. Every effort will be made to assure minimal conflict with the conference sessions and networking events the students wish to attend. This opportunity does not include travel, lodging and dining expenses outside of the meals provided at the conference.
To be eligible, the student must be an ACFE student member with anti-fraud related academic and career interests and submit the following documents by the application deadline on March 15, 2018:
- A statement of 400 words or less describing the way in which their academic and/or career interests relate to the anti-fraud profession. Name and contact information must be included.
- A letter of recommendation written by a professor or employer who is familiar with their work and career interests. The letter must be submitted on official institutional/company letterhead with a visible signature.
Documents may be emailed to Dinora Soto at DSoto@ACFE.com or faxed to +1 (512) 478-9184.
Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified by April 12, 2018.
If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Dinora by email.
If you are an ACFE student member, let us know about your interests and experiences in the comments below. To all those who will apply for the scholarship, I wish you good luck. I hope you are selected!
