Nerdy Swot’s mission is to support everyone who loves learning by offering encouragement, making a collection of resources, building a community of learners and teachers, and creating a little culture of our own where learning is celebrated.
Nerdy Swot was created to support students by offering tips and tools to help them make the most of their learning opportunties.
In most places around the world, school is compulsory and it is more and more necessary to earn a degree for employment reasons. Yet those who love learning, or who need to learn, are too often not actively encouraged to do their thing. Some people are blatantly discouraged, or have other barriers in their way.
Some people want to learn so they can achieve great things; some want to create a stable or profitable future; and some go to university because they are unsure about what type of work they would like to do. Let’s talk about all that. Some don’t like learning at all, but the hope is that here they will find ways to make it more enjoyable and easy.
Some people are in school with a specific ambition, some are in courses they don’t particularly like, some learn just for the fun of it, and some are changing their lives as mature aged students. It’s never too late to start. I was a late starter too, and yet I went on to achieve a PhD and worked for more than a decade as a university lecturer. Now, I’m about to embark on a completely different degree, at 52, just for enjoyment. It’s all possible, one step at a time.
But the Nerdy Swot project is not about what I am doing. I hope that we will build a community together, on the project’s dedicated website and on its Nerdy Swot Facebook page. Every person (student or not) who is interested in learning is invited to comment on each of this page’s posts, and to let me know what type of comment you would like to see here.
The environment at Nerdy Swot’s Facebook page is a little bit different because of the uncategorized and temporary nature of the timeline. However, it does make it easier for us to get to know each other. On the Community section, you are welcome to post your ideas, achievements, content suggestions, problems, questions… and also reply to each other’s posts.
I’m really looking forward to all the interaction. Let’s share our journeys and celebrate being Nerdy Swotsters. Let’s make it easier and more fun!
